April 12, 2017

Doughnuts. They’re the world’s most perfect dessert disguised as a breakfast dish. If you want to try your hand at baking doughnuts, consider these recipes that add a jolt of tea to the recipe:

1) Vanilla Chai Doughnuts

Vanilla Chai Doughnuts

This recipe from King Arthur Flour packs chai into the doughnut batter and into a sweet chai glaze. The doughnuts get their flavor from chai spice, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, clove, and coriander. Wet ingredients brewed chai tea, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and an egg combine with dry ingredients flour, sugar, baking powder, and the spices for an auspicious batter. Pour into a doughnut pan and bake for 10-12 minutes. Top with an icing made from sugar and brewed chai tea for the ultimate finish.

2) Oolong Donuts with a Milk Tea Glaze

This recipe from Adventures in Cooking uses oolong tea to flavor the doughnuts and a milk tea boba-inspired glaze. Start by brewing oolong tea in milk, and then pureeing it. This will go into the doughnut batter. The doughnut gets a sweet finish with a glaze made from black tea, milk, powdered sugar, and vanilla. The blogger behind this recipe, Eva, said this of the glaze:

“…The result was one of my new favorite glazes, deeply flavorful with the warm spiced flavor that only a tasty black tea can provide. And when combined with the oolong donuts, it made for an absolutely incredible dessert.”

3) Matcha Doughnuts

This recipe from Bon Appetit gives you three matcha doughnut options: sugar, powdered, or glazed. To make sweet, sugar doughnuts, toss still-warm, fried doughnuts in a mix of granulated sugar and matcha. To make powdered doughnuts, toss the doughnuts in a mix of powdered sugar and matcha. And for a glazed treat, dip doughnuts in a mix of powdered sugar, matcha, egg white, salt, and water.
